Add a Relevant Job Title to Your Resume

Many candidates leave this section out of a resume even though it is one of the most critical parts.
Your desired job title section can be a one-line section, or you can incorporate it into your resume summary section.
You can also use job titles in the previous work experience section of your resume.

The job titles on your resume help specify who you are as a professional and the level of experience you have.
The desired job title section of your resume identifies the specific position you are seeking.
The job titles listed in your experience section show how your prior experience is relevant to the position for which you are applying.
Your desired job title is one of the most essential keywords an employer’s applicant tracking system will search for when screening through the resumes they receive.
Listing your desired job title on your resume tells the reader you know exactly what you want to do and doesn’t leave it up to the hiring manager or recruiter to decide if the position would fit for you.
Your desired job title can also show your ambitions to grow with the company.

A job title can represent two different things: What an individual does and the level of experience they have in that position.
For example, "Senior Python Software Developer". Here, the "Senior" keyword shows the level of experience, and the "Python Software Developer" represents job responsibilities.
Most job titles combine keywords that describe the responsibilities of a job and the level of experience.
If you are a junior Python software developer then your job title should be "Junior Python Software Developer" or simply "Python Software Developer".

Entry-level jobs refer to positions individuals take as their first working experience or as their first job after graduation from college.
Several keywords identify entry-level positions, such as "assistant", "apprentice", "associate", or "junior".
Examples of entry-level job titles: "Junior Software Developer", "Junior Programmer", "Human Resources Assistant", "Junior Accountant", etc.
You can also include job responsibilities in the entry-level job titles, such as "Junior Python Web Application Developer", "Junior Java Developer", etc.

Experience-level jobs refer to positions of an individual who has a good working experience in a particular domain.
Several keywords identify experience-level positions, such as "leader," "team lead," "specialist," "experienced," or "senior."
Examples of some experience-level job titles: "Senior Software Developer", or "Senior Programmer" etc.
You can also include job responsibilities in job titles, such as "Senior Python Web Application Developer," "Senior Java Developer," "Experienced Full-Stack Developer," "Senior Software Developer," and "Team Lead," etc.

When choosing job titles for both your desired job title section and your experience section, it is important, to be honest about the level of experience you have and the position you want.
For example, if you are a developer and you don’t have any experience in team lead, then don’t mention team lead in the job title section.

If the job opening is for Python development and your job title is Senior Java Developer, then this job title is not relevant.
But if you have experience in Python development, then you can change the job title to Python Developer and apply for this job position.

The information you include throughout your resume, such as your experience, skills, education, training, and certifications, should match the job title of your resume.
